Travel to the city - Go to Beijing

Hello! I am L, the tour-guide of World City Traveling. Today’s destination is Beijing, the capital of China. Beijing has a long history, about 3,000 years. It is called the museum city. The 2008 Olympic Games were held here. Beijing is a big city with a population of ten million. Now, let's look into Beijing. Go~go~go~!

¡ìBeijing Capital International Airport¡í
A-ha! This place is the best international airport in China. Newly constructed for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, it is conveniently located near the heart of Beijing. It’s possible to arrive at the center of Beijing in about 30 minutes. Ah, the limousine bus is arriving right now. I will tour the city by bus.

¡ìTemple of Heaven¡í
Wow~! Yes, this is the Temple of Heaven. This is the place where the emperor performed ancestral rites in the past. And this temple was designated as one of the World Cultural Heritage site. The sublime buildings attract many tourists. There are many Chinese in a big park around the temple. Many are doing 'Tae Geuk Gwon' which is also known as Tai Chi. Let's go to our next stop.

¡ì Tiananmen Square¡í
Tiananmen Square is the most popular tourist attraction and represents the extensive spirit of the Chinese. The Square has a capacity of 1,000,000. It is incredibly large. The People’s Hero monument stands at the center of the square. And the 'Tiananmen Incident' that you all have heard about, happened in this square. In the square, the popular feature is a flag-raising ceremony. It is a grand ceremony that takes as long as 30 minutes to raise the national flag of China called the 'Five Star Red Flag'. I was so upset because I didn't see that. Now, let's go to the Forbidden City by passing through Tiananmen.

¡ìForbidden City¡í
Wow! This was the Imperial Palace of the Ming and Qing Dynasties of worldwide fame. It is called the Forbidden City! How wide it is……. It may not be possible to look around it all by walking for a day. It is the place of 'The Last Emperor' which is a name of a movie. The Chinese call it an ancient palace. It has 9999 rooms -actually 8886- and is the biggest ancient palace in the world! Wow! I am full of admiration. A Royal Palace of Taehua with the royal seat is seen as I pass the main entrance. The forbidden castle in purple! I gape in astonishment at the enormous scale. This building was built by the third emperor of the Ming by mobilizing more than 1 million people over 20 years……. The nature of the continent is reflected throughout the ancient palace.

¡ìSummer Palace and Imperial Garden in Beijing¡í
When you see the movie 'the Last Emperor', an old woman appointed Bu Ui who is a young boy for emperor. The woman is the Empress Dowager Cixi who is so famous. I-ho Yuan was built a long time ago. It was destroyed one day, so she rebuilt it. From that time it was called I-ho Yuan. The scale is so grand. It is so amazing that this big cottage was made by man power. It makes me wander by the lake of Gon Myeong. I can't believe that the lake looks like a sea made by man. And it lies next to Man Su Mountain, made of the earth dug from the lake. It's very popular because you can see the lake and look on the mountain. But it's sad to think of the pain of the many people who made it.

¡ìthe Great Wall of China¡í
Yes, this is the Great Wall of China. It is sometimes called 'the longest tomb in the world'. I can’t help but be impressed by looking at the solid long wall stretching far away along the severely mountainous terrain. This Great Wall of China was first built in the Warring States Period. The length reached 5 million kilometers. The Great Wall of China is a historic scene and a prominent feature of the Seven Buildings and Eight Wonders of the World. It's one of the top travel destinations!

¡ìThirteen Royal Tombs of the Ming Dynasty¡í
This is the Thirteen Royal Tombs of the Ming Dynasty. It was damaged from many wars at the end of the Ming Dynasty and the beginning of the Qing. It's not bad to look around Beijing, is it?

¡ìThe National Stadium¡í
Come on, this will be the final stop. This is the spot that made the biggest impression at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. This is the main sports ground for the events held on August 8, 2008. It looks like a birds nest so it is known well as "NaoChao: Bird's nest". As it is an extra-large stadium with the capacity to seat 90,000 people, it attracted attention of the people in the world at the opening and the closing ceremonies.

¢ºFood
- Okryugwan: A restaurant from North Korea in China! There are flatfish sweet drink made from fermented rice and Pyeongyang cold noodles etc.
- Beijing Duck: Roasted ribs of ducks representing Beijing! It's an essential course if you are a Beijing traveler.
- Huajiayiyuan: With cheap price, you can eat crayfish heartily. You can pile up the crayfish and eat them for about 400 won. Let's fall for the charm of Maralongsha!

How about you? Did you enjoy the trip? There are so many things to do and see in Beijing. Would you visit Beijing someday?
