DU Student's Competitive Power
¹ÚÀ̽½ | ½ÂÀÎ2009.04.07 22:57

Are you a competitive person? When people are asked this question, most people find it difficult to answer. Actually, DU's public image is that of a middle-low ranking university. For a long time, DU had ignored people comparing DU unfavorably with other universities. But recently, this has changed because of people’s changing attitudes towards DU students efforts. I'm going to introduce some DU students that have competitive power, but their competitive power isn’t the point. They don’t put blame on their environment, and they have activities that demonstrate their belief and ambition. When you read this article, I hope you will not only say “Wow~ great,” but it will also give you competitive power.
Study group about employment ‘I CAN’
The study group about employment ‘I CAN’ started 2 years ago. It made the form of club last year. This club was launched to help understand each other's ideas related to the dept. of business and the dept. of design. Recently, this club's object has been elevated to focus on presentation ability and project manufacturing.
Maybe, you have seen a brochure from the ‘I CAN’ study group about employment everywhere around school before and after the last summer vacation: ‘Winners of the Sam Sung YEEP Contest’ We asked them why they participated in the contest, and they answered that they didn’t desire the prize money from the contest; they only wanted to test their ability.
They said all DU students have their own abilities, but they can't find a way to express or develop them. Don't blame your surroundings. (For example, “I can't find employment because of the low reputation university.”) If you work hard anywhere, you can achieve positive results.
A winner of the 2008 South Korea Talent Prize, Jae Won Kim.
A winner of the 2008 South Korea Talent Prize, Jae Won Kim, reveals his three key ideas about competitive power in this interview with L.L.F last November.
The first point is ‘Seeing the wide world.’ I think the object of university life is not a single unit but a variety of experiences. In reality, people consider the TOEIC score to be very important, but I think the world is changing, so that developing your personality through various experiences is important.
The second point is ‘hardships of a young student.’ I didn’t live in plenty, but I achieved things that I wished for. There are many schoolmates who are having much difficulty with their surroundings. However, through language study and training in New Zealand, I learned to live by myself and I don't get help from my parents. So, my heart is full. Also, I learned a way to enjoy difficulty through the Marine Corps.
The third point is ‘networking.’ After I got this prize, I was called by many papers from different quarters. I wrote about achievement and news data. At that point, I perceived that I haven't achieved even one thing by myself. Because of those around me who went through troubles together with me, I achieved these results. Also through those people, I learned and realized many things about myself.
When I learned scuba diving, at first I was very scared of the deep and black sea, but now, upon seeing the sea, I wish to plunge into the water without hesitation. Anything is difficult at first, but after having the experience, I realized it was nothing to be afraid of. ‘A good beginning is half the battle.’
