Introducing Beautiful OSTs in 'La La Land'
·ù´Ù¿ø | ½ÂÀÎ2017.04.03 13:28

'La La Land,' an American musical film dropped the curtain in great success. The movie was written and directed by Damien Chazelle who is famous for his 2014 film 'Whisplash.' Chazelle says that his idea of the film was to pay homage to all creative people who moved to Los Angeles to chase their own dreams. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone play the roles of a musician and an aspiring actress who meet and fall in love in Los Angeles, 'La La Land.'

At the 74th Golden Globe Awards, the film received a leading seven nominations. The film won in all seven categories, setting a record for most Golden Globes won by a single film. The film was praised by many critics for its great screenplay and beautiful musical score performances.

For those who have already watched the film, you could listen to music again and recall the wonderful scenes of the film. For those who haven't watched the movie yet, I hope that you could go over this OST list together and enjoy the movie later.

Another Day of Sun

The movie starts with this cheerful music which was set in a traffic jam on the freeway. The movie presents Mia and Sebastian's first encounter right after this trach which was not that beautiful a moment, it was road rage. The music director and soundtrack producer, Marius de Vries mentions that "shooting of the opening was brutally hard, especially with a single-take aesthetic and the 109 degree heat."

This scene required many weeks of planning and rehearsal and finally, the music supervisor and director found the balance between beautiful poetry and natural lives of the daily LA routine. Audiences can feel the incredible commitment from all the performers and musicians who contributed while watching this scene of "Another Day of Sun."

Someone in the Crowd

This track is about Mia's friends convincing Mia who was busy preparing for her auditions to go to a party together, saying that "someone in the crowd" could be the one she needs to know. Originally there was an entire second verse and more choreography of this song, but eventually they were omitted because it was felt that the story needed more impetus in the scene.

Mia & Sebastian's Theme

Track of a beautiful piano tune played by Sebastianin the scene which Mia finds out that Sebastian is her "someone in the crowd." During a gig at a restaurant, despite warnings from the owner to play only songs on the playlist, he improvises the song into passionate jazz melody. Mia overhears his playing as she passes by. Ruan Gosling, who played Sebastian, actually played piano himself, spending two hours a day practicing piano, six days a week while having a private lesson before shooting for three months. He confides that he'd "always wanted" to play the instrument: "In what other job is it a part of your job to just sit behind a piano for three months and play? It was really one of the most fulfilling preproduction periods I've ever had." This scene of him playing beautiful music definitely showed the hard work he put into this film.

A Lovely Night

This perfect romantic track is from the scene where Mia and Sebastian dance and sing together for the first time. A few months After their encounter at the restaurant, Mia runs into Sebastian at aparty again. After the party, they walk together to find their cars, pretending not to like each other despite the chemistry between them.
