"Beside You": Slogan of General Student Council
õÀ¯°æ | ½ÂÀÎ2017.06.01 13:26

‘Beside you' is the slogan of the 2017 Daegu University student council. I wanted to interview someone from the student council, but it was very difficult to make it happen. However, the student council gladly agreed to our interview, so I spoke with Seung-hyeong Lee who is on the student welfare committee. He was more than happy to answer my questions during our in-depth interview.

Interviewer (Yu-Gyeong Cheon): Q1. Why did you name the student council 'Beside you' and how many people are on the student council?

Seung-hyeong Lee: We want to get close to students, so we named the council 'Beside you'. The media director made the council logo red, blue, yellow, and green to express our togetherness mindset. There are 23 people on the council including, president, vice-president, Ministry of Culture and Sports (3), executive office (2), Policy Bureau (2), Media office (3), promotion office (3), student welfare committee (4), and a women’s committee (4). The Ministry of Culture and Sports supervises 'festival or events'. The executive office and the policy bureau supervise documents and budgets. The executive office takes charge of documents and the policy bureau pushes ahead annual events. The media office makes posters and festival promotion videos. They also supervise the student council's Facebook page. The student welfare committee works for student's welfare. The student welfare committee pushes ahead to link with some restaurants next to Daegu University. The last bus stop of the main gate's one line is also pushed ahead by the student welfare committee. When students have inconvenient things occur, we try to make them better.

Q2. What do you do in the office?

A2. We discuss events or welfare or convenience for students, and try to take students’ proposals into consideration. We represent all Daegu University students, so we have a lot of meetings to make sure we are addressing all of the issues we can.

Q3. How do you come up with ideas to do things for students, like borrowing items or having food trucks at athletics competitions?

A3. We are maintaining past traditions and also trying to develop new ones. In terms of late-night events, we know that students may be so hungry during the examination period, so we try to do late-night events on a regular basis.

Q4. What do you think about misunderstandings concerning how you are using the budget and the council’s failure to hear students’ opinions?

A4. I also had a bad opinion of the student council. Last year, the student council had a bad event, so we are very aware of how students perceive our efforts. Therefore, this year, we will make public our budget on the Facebook page, and we will try to work hard and make sure all of our events are a success.

This year, we have taken many calls from external enterprises and individuals. We have taken individual assignments, marketing, and surveys, and we have tried to act on as many student suggestions as possible. We have investigated the desire of students, and we have provided what they want to get. We are so proud of that. Call us when you need something, please.

Q5.What do you think about the student council removing dejabo from the homosexual Quest club?

A5. We absolutely do not think that homosextuals are bad. We removed dejabos which were not approved by the administrative office. It was an unlawful attachment. We removed other dejabos if they were not approved by the administrative office, because we give a seat for other printed materials. If the club wants to keep anonymity, we advise to send an e-mail to the administrative office to receive a seal. We have not heard from someone, and we had no choice but to remove them. We are not expressing positive or negative side about homosexuals.

Q6. What do you think about disappearing student restaurants and the printing room at the College of Liberal Arts?

A6. If we were the student council last year, we may be have been concerned about that, but we heard that the manager of ex-Gyeongsang campus restaurants operates restaurants in Naeri-ri. We are sorry about the restaurants. Therefore, the printing room is another issue. We heard that the Gyeongsan campus students talked to the administrative office, but the liberal art's students accepted that.

Q7. What do you think about the scholarship system of our college?

A7. I know that the scholarship systems are better than last semester. I think that out college's scholarship systems are so good. There are many scholarships and a scholarship team, I suggest to student that they need to search scholarships that they can get from colleges on the Daegu University site.

Q8. Do you have anything that you want to talk to students about as a representative of student council?

A8. Thank you for your support. The 'Beside you' student council will reward your replies.

We always will be on your side, the 33rd 'Beside you' student council.
