Each college at Daegu University includes a photocopy room operated by a private contractor and used by students to print assignments for classes and other purposes.
But recently, several colleges’ photocopy rooms confirmed that they will be closed down permanently on May 9. The college of Liberal Art's photocopy room has already closed.
According to a copy room operator, Daegu university increased the bidding price from last year. The increase cost to operate the copy room put pressure on him. So, he said that it is hard to make a living.
Daegu university responded to the closing saying that they cannot be helped. In addition, they reckoned there is no need to have a photocopy room in every college. Students can go to the new community relief building for copies instead of their colleges. This is not much of an inconvenience for students in the colleges of economics, humanities, rehabilitation and so on that are located near the new building.
However, the copy room in the college of economics remained opened, which is not fair to students in other colleges. I tried to contact representatives at the students' union in the college of liberal arts for an interview about this, but was unable to reach them.
One student of college of liberal arts says that it is too hard to go to the community relief building compared to what we had before.
For college of liberal art's comfort and welfare, we need to show more concern and more attention. The student union must also be more active to speak up and represent the voice of the student body.
