Have you ever heard of “Reporter School” ? This winter, the reporter school camp is being held in Seoul at KU(건국대학교). Reporter school literally means gathering reporters from various universities and talking to each other about their university media organization. There are both Korean press and English press. If you want to be a reporter, you should go there. I will now introduce reporter school.

First, it lasts for two nights and three days, and you stay at the KonKuk University dormitory. The roommates are mostly your university students. Representatives of magazines and news reporters hold lectures on how we write articles. The theme of reporter school is when an English reporter writes an article, what points should be considered. Sub-themes include image structure and flow of English News, coexistence between people, and English News.

For example, a YTN investigative reporter said, “investigative reporting is important for our nation and the real reporter; not just delivering news” and, “nowadays, most reporters only emphasize conflict composition, regardless of theme and problems.” The bottom line of what the YTN reporter said is that a reporter needs to catch facts and find the real problems. Moreover, a Korean economy news reporter talked about reporter factors. There were three: 1. Power of facts. 2. If your pictures are not good enough, you aren’t close enough. 3. Show, not tell. The theme of what the reporter was saying is that a reporter needs to close facts.

When you go there, you can acquire reporting skills. If you want to get a different job (not a reporter), it doesn’t matter because English News skills help your English writing skill and editing skill. If you have a chance to go there, I recommend it – don’t hesitate.
