Have you ever taken a special lecture about the future? I’m going to introduce the Daegu University “special lecture about students’ dreams”. This activity is a kind of education volunteer work and a program from the admission officer system. Elected students work in some middle/high schools during April to December. The area for this activity is Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do. Students who tell a story about their education or study receive the money for the lecture about dreams. It is different in other areas, but most students don’t mind who earns the money for the special lecture. Students don’t have to necessary talk about study or their education; they can tell a story about their interesting campus life or a festival.

 

If you want to be a special lecture member about dreams, you should first send a resume to an admission officer. There are important things to remember when you do this. When you write a resume about a lecture, you should think about how you can attract students’ attention. You can see the top of the resume and should write a self-introduction with a lot of information about yourself. For example, “Hello! Are you sick and tired of boring and unsympathetic lectures? There is a junior student who always lives with a freshman’s mind, but an old student at university. Do you usually think ‘why should I study in school?’ and feel a little tired of repeated study? Don’t worry about that! I will tell you how interesting my life is on campus, and I will increase your motivation and dreams by using buzzwords and easy expressions.” Just like this example, people who want to be a lecture member should focus on interesting topics for high/middle school students. When you have finished writing a self-introduction, the next step is to choose a lecture theme. You can choose the theme of the lecture, but you should always think about students’ interests. For example, you should try to decide on an unexpected theme because when students see the theme of the lecture, they can easily expect abstract content and then they can rashly guess the whole of the lecture. You can hear about the success or failure of your submission from an admission officer based on this point. If you pass, you have to make your presentation which will be part of a lecture in schools.

 

What can be acquired from this activity? From a lecturer’s point of view, they can acquire communication ability and practice teaching in the future. When they are studying for exams to be teacher, the motivation received from this activity can help their study. Moreover, people who lack self-confidence can overcome this weakness and people who speak quickly in front of people can change their speaking rate, because when they usually speak quickly in front of people they can’t hear their own speed. So, they can receive some feedback from students or teachers in high/middle school during the time they deliver a lecture about campus life or their major.

 

Next, from a students’ point of view, students can receive some knowledge about dreams or jobs they are interested in. If they want to enter the major that their lecture’s subject is about, lecturers can give advice to them. Another good thing is motivation. Students who become tired of studying at school are losing their motivation for study, so when a lecturer told a story about interesting campus life and a major they want to study, some students imagine their campus life and university. If students think about this, they become eager to be a student who attends a school they want to go to. The third good thing is certainty about their education or future. As students get older, they worry about aptitude and the future. During question and answer time, they can ask some questions about their source of trouble. When lecturers receive those questions about the future or a major, they try to give sincere answers to the questions. Students who receive the answers can then think about their future or major. People know that meditation about their source of trouble is good for them.

 

In this way, a lecture about dreams (giving information and finding a dream) is helpful for each other. If you did not participate in anything at school, you should try this university activity. When you find a job or write a resume, you can include this impressive activity while you were at university. If your major is related to education or you want to be a teacher, you should do this activity because it helps you become ready to be a teacher.
