No Opportunity for a Temporary Position

These days, getting a job is too difficult for people who want to get a job. So some do an internship or get a temporary job to get employment quickly. Non-standard jobs means workers are not ensured of work-time, salary, and work-sustainability, etc. However, there is a problem with temporary positions. Nowadays, the number of the non-standard job is jumping sharply.

 

The typical reasons is growth of the minimum wage. Compared to last year, the minimum wage has improved. In 2018, the wage was 7,530 won, however, the wage has increased to 8,350 won. Although economic growth is fixed, the minimum wage is increasing. So, many employers do not recruit new employees. They are reluctant to recruit full-time employees. For this reason, they recruit for unstable temporary employee positions.

 

The next reason is improving job opportunities of the elderly. The elderly's job opportunities increasing so much that standard jobs are decreasing sharply. The decline of the standard jobs are decreasing sharply. The decline of the standard job leads to increase of the non-standard job. And the job opportunities of the elderly are not a permanent employment. The opportunities for the elderly are short-term employment. Therefore temporary jobs are increasing and the employment market is fixed.

 

As the employment market is fixed, people have trouble getting a job. Especially, women have great difficulty getting a job. In Korea, women can not get a job as easily as men because of employer's old attitude regarding marriage and childbirth, etc. If they use the maternity leave, they are almost forced to resign. In addition, few women in their twenties can get a job because companies think women can't work as hard as a man the same age. Therefore, women have trouble finding a job, including temporary jobs. And the number of women who are working at temporary jobs will increase.

 

The government has tried to resolve the problem of temporary positions, but they have not resolved the problem clearly. In addition, the number of non-standard employees is increasing. Therefore, the government must take steps to clearly resolve these problems to dispel worries about employment for many people, especially the younger generation.
