At the beginning of the semester, the Daegu University website announced the opening of the Healing Lounge on the 15th floor of the Seongsan Hall. Healing Hall was created by the DU Human Rights Commission to restore psychological stability to DU people who are dealing with academic or job related problems in their lives.
Visitors to the Healing Hall are also given the opportunity to experience various programs and reflect on themselves. As an L.L.F reporter, I visited the Healing Hall to experience the various programs they offer.
The Healing Hall is in the main building, located at the center of our university. It can take up to 20 minutes to walk there from some places on campus. As soon as I arrived on the 15th floor and opened the door, classical music washed over me, making me feel as if I had already relaxed. After putting my shoes in a shoe closet and wearing slippers, I was informed about the “Love, spread with fragrance” program which is conducted there.
In the Healing Lounge, you can sit on a comfortable cushion and freely read books that are available. You can fall asleep while reading a book in a warm, soft atmosphere where classical music is played. This is because it’s a healing time for all of you. You can find good words while reading the books. Also, you can experience the activities that you feel through your hands such as clay. You can make what you want with the soft clay.
The healing lounge has different missions every month, and this November’s mission is “New.” If you have memories or experiences that come to mind under the theme of “New,” you can express them in writing or painting, and write down what you want to share with others on a pin board.
Various stationery such as colored pencils and sign pens are arranged, so they can be used freely. By doing so, you can broaden your experience of self-treatment and communication with others. You can enjoy using coloring or calligraphy books and display them, and you can take them and share them with others.
On the walls of the Healing Lounge, there are mirrors and chairs like a dressing table. You can look at your face in the mirror and think about what you are thankful for while your reflect on the day. It is an opportunity to learn more about yourself and make resolutions to spend the rest of the day well.
There is paper available the mirror drawer so that you can write letters to yourself or to your friends. You can choose any activity you want to do it. It is up to you to decide whether to participate in these various programs. As the name of this place is literally “healing lounge,” it is aimed at healing there, so it doesn’t matter if you don't matter if you don’t want to participate. You can just sit there and heal without doing anything.
However, the sad thing about this is that it is not always open 24 hours a day. The healing lounge is open from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. It is also available between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday thru Thursday. If you don’t have class at those times, it would be good to use the healing lounge. You can come alone or with friends and experience various programs that can help you relax or reflect on yourself.
It would be sad if we missed out on visiting the Healing Lounge at Daegu University because we didn’t know about it. There aren’t many people who know much about the space yet, so how about introducing the Healing Lounge to people around you?
