Hello L.L.F readers! I am Mina Lee, a freshman attending Daegu University's Faculty of Culture and Arts and a junior reporter for our school's newspaper team Love, Light & Freedom. I'm highly thankful to be writing my very first articles and determined to do my absolute best during my time here.
English has pretty much defined my whole life. Having been introduced to English starting from a very young age, I gradually grew up with a different state of mind than somebody who only used Korean because I was bilingual.
Following the mantra "Thrive on change," I've always described myself as a person who's always ready for new things and excitement. I like going to places I've been unaware of and meeting new people inside their unique cultures.
As I came across songs and culture in a language that I understood better, English, I realized that I wanted to work in the entertainment and art industry that involves various languages and connects diverse cultures into one. So, I applied to my major.
While I was growing up in this bilingual and multicultural environment that I've set up for myself, I started becoming aware of the things that people around the world were going through; racial hate crimes, injustice, gender norms and the climate crisis all stood out to me as critical matters. This realization made me acknowledge that I should be using my platform in ways that reach and help many people as much as possible.
By being a junior reporter of the school newspaper team, I want to express myself to the fullest with inner language by following my drive to do the right thing and to experience the highs and the lows in this world. I sincerely hope this position will be my creative outlet and help me discover a new version of myself.
