Similar to the case of the wrinkle-improving drug 'Botox', it is argued that the name of 'GripTok' is likely to become a common noun as it has been recognized as a trademark after a long legal battle over whether it is a trademark or a common noun.

In the end, some companies filed for a trial to invalidate the trademark rights of GripTok in November last year, and are using alternative names such as 'SmartTok' insted of the name GripTok to avoid legal controversy.
