"3 Idiots" is a comedy about events that occur on one of the most prestigious universities in India.

The main character of this movie is Rancho. Rancho is a character who rejects India's academic background-oriented and competitive society, and only does the things he likes. He is best friends with Raju and Parhan.

Raju is a character who has blind faith in superstition rather than his own efforts. Parhan is a character who likes shooting pictures and has talent for it. But he entered the college of engineering because of great pressure from his parents.

Rancho on the other hand has had a strong mechanical interest since he was young. So he entered the college of engineering to be an engineer. Raju is from the lower-income group, and Parhan has a common home environment. Raju and Parhan represent the common people.

We choose a major and have a dream according to our grades like Raju and Parhan, rather than to choose what we really want like Rancho. Why are we choosing a job or major according to what society wants rather than what we want?

"3 Idiots" criticizes the educational reality of the win-first principle. It's not just a comedy. Rancho says in the last scene of the movie.
