12 Angry Men 12 Angry Men is a movie that was made in 1957. To this day, the movie has not come out in color. It is black and white. I had the opportunity to encounter this old movie because of an assignment given by my law and society teacher. Truthfully, the first time I laid eyes on a black and white movie it was out of curiosity. But black and white movie left me feeling cold. However, in university, I was asked to do a report on the film for my Sociology class. I thought that watching black and white movies was a great way to encourage boredom. By the way, the movie is very funny. The movie focuses on a judge and jury. A jury is made up of 12 ordinary citizens tasked with deciding justice in legal disputes. The jury in the movie work together and meet with the presiding judge. The case involves a boy accused of killing his father. The jury must reach an unanomous decision, but one person says not guilty. Many people try to persuade him to say the boy is guilty. But he is indifferent, and expresses his own opinion confidently to the other people. Gradually, whenever taking a show of hands, the number of people who say not increases. Finally, just one person says guilty. And the rest of the people say not guilty. The judge must rule on the case objectively, without considering personal feeling. So he criticizes other people. Justice is served in the end when everyone says not guilty. By the way, in the end, whether or not the boy is guilty is not shown. By using the open ending, writer gives the audience time to think about whether the right decision was made. I still don’t know if the boy was guilty or not guilty. Though this movie can be boring at times, after I saw the movie, I can appreciate the agony of a jury that holds the fate of another human being in its hands.
