A Personality of Child in A School of Heart The book ¡°A School of Heart¡± is written by Louise B. Weldon, who is a counselor and social worker for children. The original title was Character Building Day by Day : 180 Quick Read-Alouds for Elementary School and Home. This is an educational self improvement book for children, and it provides 99 stories with 26 characters focusing on personality education. Through the book, we could learn important values that might not be gained from cramming educational subjects or standardized tests at school. I think that the character is the most highly regarded attribute among many values these days in spite of acquirement of knowledge. A School of Heart is a book to develope personality for children. The book is for children but good for parents, too. With the short fables, it helps us to take a glimpse of many values easily in actual life through some stories with good and important behavior for humans. There are 26 traits mentioned in this book such as tolerance, consideration, leadership, creativity, sense of responsibility, sociality, gratitude, cooperation, impartiality, self-esteem, courage, cheerfulness, persistence, diligence, punctuality, equilibrium, sincerity, forgiveness, confidence, problem-solving literacy, honesty, protect the environment, endurance, sense of community, harmony and purity . Tolerance is a characteristic that doesn¡¯t have a dislike to differences, so it is willingness to recognize and respect the beliefs or practices of others. Cooperation is a trait that unites mind and ideas. It seems like ¡°Two heads are better than one.¡± ¡®Leader¡¯ is a person who plays a role in leadership of a group, and ¡®ship¡¯ means spirit, as leadership, refers to people who are in control of a group or organization. The book says it is an ability that should not reign over the people, but serve and guide them. It helps us to think ourselves that what is meaning with values through a summary of definitions about these heart and various stories. The values are not only for children. They are important things for adults, too. I think that the book will be a useful guide for everyone, not only children but also their parents or expectant parents and DU students that hope to work in education.
