‘Colorful Weddings’: Cultural Melting Pot Family The movie ‘Colorful Weddings’ is a comedy movie from France. It was directed by Philippe de Chauveron and opened in 2014. The movie’s original title is ‘Serial Bad Weddings’. It was released in Korea with the title ‘Colorful Weddings’. The movie has been popular in Korea. When it was released, the TV program ‘Non-summit’ (an entertainment program in Korea) was gaining popularity. We can find similar comedic situations in both titles. Moreover, it was because of a particular issue that some members of ‘Non-summit’ recommended this movie and brought people’s attention to it by drawing attention to a particular image. In ‘Non-summit’, young men from different countries talk about their thoughts regarding a particular topic. The cultural clash between the guests draws a laugh. The movie also makes people laugh like ‘Non-summit’. Each son-in-law in the Claude family argues and mocks one another. It includes international relations. The Claude family is a wealthy French family. The mother and father are devout Christians, and they were preserving pure blood before their daughters got married. Their daughters all got married with men from other countries, except for the last daughter. Arab, Jewish, and Chinese son-in-laws made for much culture fighting and culture shock. They always caused problems and made the home confusing and noisy. The parents are always distressed about this situation. Their final hope is their last daughter. They pray that their last daughter will marry a normal French man, and not add another foreign son-in-law. Finally, the last daughter brought her lover home to meet her parents... and he was African! The father gets a shock and says “This is a real Benetton family!” With the last daughter’s boyfriend, the Claude family is now made up of many different countries. To prevent another foreign son-in-law, the family tries to make the last daughter break up with her boyfriend. At the end of the movie, they find peace. What happened to this family? The movie is a real comedy but there are various other moods that are invoked. By following the story, there are laughs, love, hate, anger, sadness, happiness, and so on.Alotofemotionsareinthismovie. If someone asks me what my favorite comedy movie of this year is, I will answer, ‘Colorful Weddings’. While I was watching the movie, I couldn’t stop laughing. The actors’ facial expressions were another interesting part of the film. If you really need something to make you laugh out loud, I recommend this movie.
