Trump Won the 2016 US Presidential Election
·ù´Ù¿ø | ½ÂÀÎ2016.12.17 22:55

Donald Trump was elected America’s 45th president, a shocking victory for a rich businessman who never engaged deeply in politics and was heavily criticized for his thoughtless statements about racial and sex discrimination, as well as for his sexual assault allegations. His unexpected win over Hillary Clinton surely left many citizens in panic.

The result of the vote count was a big twist. The latest partial result showed Trump winning the White House with 290 Electoral College Votes to Clinton's 228. This outcome was even more surprising because approval ratings by most US newspapers completely failed to grasp the real public opinion.

Most newspapers in the US reported that Hillary Clinton would be elected right up until just before the ballot-counting. Florida, Wisconsin, and Michigan, the cities where Clinton would surely take the lead according to major media's survey of the public, were monopolized by Trump. The NYT expected that Hillary Clinton's winning probability was 84%, and the Huffington Post expected it to be 98%. After the ballot-counting, they were blamed for the fact that they didn't have neutrality when reporting about the two candidates.

This unexpected result can be interpreted as the American citizen's rage toward the established politicians. During the presidential election campaign, Donald Trump had emphasized his own country's benefit, hoping to rebuild America to be great again.

According to the increase of America's gap between the rich and poor, the life of the middle class became uneasy and restless. To resolve this problem, people voted for a change of party, but there was still no real change in people's lives. The American citizens' disappointment grew bigger. They began to feel hate towards establishment politicians, and to thirst for a new change.

In this situation, Donald Trump set out a few aggressive logic ideas that moved the mind of the people. Firstly, he blamed illegal immigrants from Mexico for the high unemployment rate, raising people's hate against "colored people." It seems that many white people who usually had dissatisfaction felt a catharsis at the bottom of their heart, and became Trump's broad base of support.

There are other aggressive statements that worked as important factors for his victory. Donald Trump complained about the US armed forces stationed in South Korea and Japan. He expressed discontent saying that South Korea and Japan are having a free ride in terms of security. The logic insisting that "free trade made it difficult for America" actually worked for gaining support from factory workers and engineers in the USA.

In this way, Trump formed and actually tried strategies that made the American citizens' rage inside their mind directed at the enemies outside.

After Donald Trump's unexpected triumph, Hillary Clinton made a concession speech. She said "this is painful and it will be for a long time" but the people should "give him a chance to lead." However, the anti-Trump protests are still happening all over the country. Furthermore, the South Korea government is seeking the best way to cooperate with America's new successful candidate.
