For The first time, a The Statue of Peace for ‘Sexual Slave Women’ statue has been built in Daegu University, Korea. It has high significance and is a direct donation from students. On December, 21st, there was an opening ceremony in front of Light Square, Woongji-Gwan (Student Union Building). Lee Young Soo, a comfort woman, also attended the opening ceremony.

The 33rd student council of our university’, ‘With you’ passed the hat around from the autumn festival (October 19~21) to December for developing students’ historical awareness and lending a hand for comfort women. They raised about 2.3 million won through their off-line and online efforts. Likewise, over 15 million won was collected as donations from university members who were participating in the fund-raising.

However, this final amount was low compared to the cost of a statue. Nevertheless, the talent donations and support made it success. It’s artist Seo Yong Jun and CEO You Gwang Seon said. It was possible to build the Comfort Women Statue with lots of interest and effort by Daegu University.

One of the students who participated in the construction said, “ I participated because I thought it was very meaningful and we have to remember the situation. ” Another student said, “ I was happy to be involved in the meaningful work, and I hope it will spread to universities across the country based on our school. ”

Our university members worked together to build the comfort women statue. Although it is the first time for the university, it is also meaningful because if was collected together. How about having a word with the statue after class?
