Have you heard about the word ‘etiquette’? ‘Etiquette’is derived from the French language meaning basic manner in a situation. In university, there are many examples of etiquette. We chose to talk about garbage and restroom etiquette among various views in this article. Do you think that Daegu University students usually observe restroom and recycling etiquette well?

Due to this question, we are did the interview with a cleaner at Daegu University.

Q1.In Daegu University restrooms there are sanitary pad trash cans, instead of regular trash cans. What do you think are the improvements and disadvantages of such a fact?

A1. The first advantage is convenience because we don't need to empty the waste basket. The second advantage is sanitation. If there are no trash cans in the restrooms, the garbage does not smell bad because the trash can't get full. Furthermore, we can keep it in a clean condition for a long time.

A disadvantage is the water pressure problem. In a situation where the water pressure is low, sometimes the toilet is blocked by toilet paper. After this situation, the toilet water is able to flow again.

Q2. What is your worst problem with keeping clean conditions in restrooms?

A2. There are three problems in maintaining the restrooms. The First problem is about the mirror. When some students wash their hands, they splash water on the mirror. Another problem is about wet floors. When some students wash their shoes and feet in the sink, the floor is wet by wet shoes. If we can’t see the wet floor and therefore don’t dry it, some students can slip over on the wet floor. The final problem is flushing the toilet. When a student relieves themself, he/she should push the toilet button.

We wish students follow the above manners. If students do this well, we could not be happier.

Q3. Are students doing recycling well?

A3. Yes they are, but there is one problem about recycling. A thing that can’t recycle well is a take-out cup. Many students usually throw away take-out cups in the summer without pouring out the leftover beverage.

Q4.Finally, would you like to say something to students?

A4. When some students smoke a cigarette, they usually throw away the cigarette butts everywhere on the college rooftops. There is a trash can for cigarettes, so we want them to throw out cigarettes in these cigarette trash cans. Moreover, we wish students wouldn’t split on the floor. Except for these things, most students are doing well about garbage etiquette.

We also did an interview with students. Generally, the students’opinion is they are thankful for the cleaners in DU. Students always have a mind that the cleaners in Daegu University are the most kind and best people.

According to this mind set that students are thankful for the cleaners, shouldn’t we observe the rules of restroom and garbage etiquette? If we are doing it well, Daegu University will be a good place where people consider each other.
