University scholarships can reduce students’ financial worries regarding such things as tuition fees, student loans, or even the cost of books. This helps students to not drop out of university due to financial difficulties. Daegu University recently announced however that it has diminished its scholarship funding, and many students have complained about this. Read on to the following information regarding scholarships that have been changed this year.

Academic Excellence scholarship

An Academic Excellence scholarship can only be obtained by undergraduate students who got a high score within the top 12% of each department during the previous semester. (But, these students have to earn at least 12 credits and get over a 3.0 GPA in the previous semester.)

From spring semester in 2019, an Academic Excellence scholarship doesn’t require any English certificates such as TOEIC or TOEFL.

The reason for the 30% decrease in Academic Excellence scholarships from last semester is to increase the DU Hangbok-nanum scholarship which proposes to share the financial aid fairly among Daegu University students.

Foreign Language Ability scholarship

Foreign Language Ability scholarships are to be abolished from this semester.

The reason for the abolition is due to a decrease in applicants, unfair scholarship benefits limited to certain language departments, and finally double-benefits of both Foreign Language ability scholarships and English Contests.

Academic Growth scholarship

An Academic Growth scholarship requires students to have improved their grades more than 1.5 GPA.

Students who are qualified for an Academic Growth scholarship can get 15% off tuition fees, compared to last semester where students got 1/3 discount off their tuition fees.
