Thegovernment plans to invest 1 trillion won over 7 years to develop fully autonomous driving technology with an accident rate of '0' on all roads nationwide.

Through this project, the government plans to focus on five areas: new vehicleconvergence technology, ICT convergence technology, road traffic convergence technology,service creation, and ecosystem construction to complete the world's highestlevel of convergence for fully autonomous driving.

Thereare 5 levels self-driving car technologies, the higher the level, the higherthe level of automation. Level 4 is the destination that the South Koreangovernment is focusing on.

It plans to develop 'new technology for road traffic convergence' to secure safeautonomous driving technology by linking traffic infrastructure informationsuch as roads and traffic safety facilities with autonomous driving technology. An 'autonomous driving service' for self-driving mobile services is also underdevelopment.

Through this project, the government will realize full autonomous driving on majorroads across the country, leading to global technology competitiveness ofdomestic companies and creating future service industries as well asadvancement of domestic transportation systems.

In thefuture, government officials explained that it is expected to achieve aprofound ripple effect of industrial technology and socio-culture changethrough reduction of traffic accidents, support for the weak, trafficcongestion, establishment of safety and certification standards, andimplementation of hyper-connected two-way communication.
