Students¡¯ Confusion on Untact or Face-to-Face Lecture
³ª½ÂÈñ | ½ÂÀÎ2020.10.08 13:25

Social distancing was upgraded to step 2.5, as COVID-19 spread again after the assembly that was held at Gwanghwamun Gate. Because of this, each university and students have no choice but to go to online lectures again.

Universities located in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do notified students of the online lecture operating system. Daegu Catholic University announce online classes for two weeks, Kyungpook National University for three weeks, Yeungnam University until midterm. Keimyung University encourage online classes until September, 19, but lab and other practical course were to be held face to face. Daegu University decided to change the operating system to face-to-face after online for two weeks in the second semester, unlike the first semester.

If there are over 30 students in a lecture, the university recommends going to online lectures but face-to-face class can be held at the professor’s discretion. In lab and other practical course with less than 30 students and a room capacity of less than 50%, classes will be face to face or blended.

Even if there are over 30 students, it can be face-to-face at the professor’s discretion so, students who have to live in a dormitory or work at a part-time job got very anxious about the slow notification. They have also complained about going to school for a single lecture while the government forbids large gatherings.

On the other hand, some have complained about online lectures. “Non-face-to-face classes where students aren't together is a great idea to prevent infection risk of COVID-19. Nevertheless, I felt we wasted our tuition because the platforms and progress process of online lecture weren't smooth. I think they were lower quality lectures than face to face lectures.”

“I didn't attend a high-quality face to face lectures, but I am paying the same tuition. It seems absurd. I hope this semester is better than the last semester,” one student said.

Many students are confused by unclear decisions like professor’s discretion. Now, the university has to show better decision than last semester to reassure students who are full of distrust.
