Visiting Classic Truck Concert
±è³ª°æ | ½ÂÀÎ2020.12.03 11:48

In our university dormitory, we held a classical performance at Sarang Square last October as part of our university innovation project. The concert was a classic truck concert that restored the minds of the students who had been daunted by Covid19, and allowed them to feel the romance of the campus in the fall.

For the concert, a symphony orchestra led by conductor Ham Shin-ik visited Gyeongsan Campus and busked for street performances. In the pandemic era, classical musicians has also sought a new way of performing. In particular, the five-ton truck was remodeled into a stage, and a mobile concert hall was displayed that could be played anywhere. It showed that art can be shared without the usual form of a colorful stage.

The concert was held with two meters between seats to keep social distance, while limiting the number of participants. It also was live streamed on the YouTube channel of our university for members who couldn't watch it in person.

For the concert, I chose various songs that go well with the beautiful fall campus. Along with the tone of the co-star soprano, the concert featured "I Want to Live in My Dream" and "Hungarian Dance" by Brahms, among the Gounod's opera Romeo and Juliet.

In addition, Anderson's typewriter concerto played harmonies of typewriters and instruments, and the Saint-Saens song featuring a mellow violin solo and the clarinet concerto by Weber matched the autumn mood well. As the last song, they played the fifth symphony, "Fate," to mark the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth this year.

Jeong Seok-yeon, the director of the dormitory who hosted the event, said, "I wanted to give a small gift to the students who joined the company under the circumstances of COVID-19. I feel more moved and resonated than I thought, so I feel like I received a gift. I hope it was a little bit of a boost for our students, who are tired of pandemics and have become more uncomfortable than before.
