This year, many local universities failed to fill the quota for freshmen. The enrollment rate for new students at Daegu University this year was 80.8 percent, down percent from last year.

Daegu University President Kim Sang-ho expressed his intention to resign, taking responsibility for the sluggish development of the school, saying the reason for the lack of the admission quota this year may be the president’s problem. So, he actually expressed his intention to resign.

“I think solving the issues is at least a courtesy and last duty as a president, so please understand this situation,” Kim said, hinting that the timing of his resignation will be after he finishes the issues. 

It is the fist time that Daegu University has experienced the resignation of the president related to school management, such as the low university enrollment rate. President Kim Sang-ho sought ways to overcome the crisis of local universities at a meeting with other local universities.

At the meeting, participants sought regional win-win to overcome the crisis of local universities and secure sustainable growth. Participants sympathized with the fact that the university’s crisis is a crisis of economy.
