Since Dec. 2019 when the electric standing scooter was first introduced on campus, students of DU have enjoyed a convenience they never had before. An electric stand scooter is a kind of personal transporter which is available to travel fast when the distance is too far to walk, or too close to take a car.

You can see many personal transporters at DU, since the best example of this distance is on-campus. You might encounter them easily and with high frequency when you walk around campus. Unfortunatlely the encounters don't always occur in a gentle manner. Sometimes they almost colide with cars or pedestrians.

Since a university statute regulates the speed of mobility to 15km/h it isn't that dangerous for its speed. However, the center of gravity of the scooter is so high compared with other motorized transportation that this vulnerability makes even the smallest bump a possible accident.

In response to massive demands for safety, the congress approved the amendment and it will take effect on May 13. The regulations were just recommended before, but after the 13th of May, regulations force riders to obey it or suffer a penalty. Below are the details.

The convenience of electric standing scooters comes from their high accessibility, but the risk also rises in a similar manner. To achieve safety as a transportation method, it is inevitable to diminish its convenience. By considering the benefits between diminished convenience and increased safety, this amendment can be regarded as reasonable.
