Recently, it is common to see or hear the phrase 'PTSD' in our daily life. How do we use this phrase? Are we using the phrase PTSD in an appropriate way? Do we refer to any situation as PTSD in which papers defines it?

Nowadays, people who abuse the phrase usually have a limited notion of the definition. They just focus on the negative emotions evoked by a situation that is similar with a previous one which made someone unpleasant. 

So, What is PTSD? To criticize the inappropriate abuse of the word, it is necessary to know the definition of it. PTSD is an acronym of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. It is a mental disorder that can develop after exposure to a traumatic event such as warfare, child abuse or other threats. Symptoms include hyper alertness, disturbing feelings, or evasion of trauma related cues. Severe cases can make it impossible for the patient to follow their daily routine.

Due to this situation, most veterans who were diagnosed with PTSD from warfare such as the Korean War or the Vietnam War missed an appropriate moment or way of treatment. They are still suffering from the painful memory of the warfare. PTSD is a much more severe disorder than the media portrays it, and comes with painful symptoms.

June is the month of patriotism, the month for veterans who devoted and shed blood for our country. By reviewing inappropriate usage of our daily language, how about being thankful for those who dedicated themselves for our country?
