‘The Catcher in the Rye’ is an example of classic American literature and is considered to be a masterpiece. This book is written from the perspective of a flawed teenage boy showcasing his struggles during a difficult period of his life, and in some degree can be relatable especially for those people who are coming of age who might be experiencing the same circumstances.

Why would I recommend this book? Mainly because of the theme that speaks about different generations that exposes the reality of relationships, hardships, and existence in society. The main content is about the protagonist being kicked out of school and wandering in New York for three days. Why did he go to New York? The reason is he got expelled from school and tried to return home.

He enters a hotel room and after a while he has an amazing experience. The experience was shocking to him, and he then left of the hotel. Afterwards, he goes to his parent's house. He wants to keep his expulsion a secret from his father, so he secretly meets his sister.

After talking a lot with his sister, he asked her to lend him a little money. She had money she had saved and gave him all of it. He was moved by her actions.

He tried to leave for another place the next day, and when he tried to say goodbye to his sister, his sister brought some luggage and said she would go on the trip with him. In the meantime, many things happened throughout his journey and he usually talked about his dreams.

He mentioned that his dream was to become a watchman in the rye. Whenever young children run around in the rye, they are unable to see what’s in front of them, so he wants to play a role in holding the children and stopping them from falling off a cliff or getting lost. This is a figure of speech meaning wanting to guide young children to the right path and protect them from losing their innocence.
