Boycott against SPC

An employee in her 20s was caught in a stirrer and died at the Pyeongtaek SPC plant. The stirrer is operated in pairs, but no one was aware of it until she died doing other work for the quota.

 

The Korean Chemical Fiber Food Workers’ Union held a protest. The boycott spread on SNS, including the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions.

 

The reason why it became a bigger controversy was that SPC had a steady controversy before and never took action to change. In some cases, they delayed the payment of prizes that won Baskin Robbins and attacked customers, and the behavior of leaving bread at the bakery worker’s mortuary caused anger among customers.

 

Since then, a large number of consumers have continued their boycott of SPC, such as sharing a list of a product of SPC affiliates and creating a site where you can check affiliates by taking a bar code.

 

Looking at the series of boycotts, you can guess the level of consumer consciousness in Korea. Now consumers are no longer just considering price or quality, but also pursuing ethical consumption.

 

Through this SPC boycott, we expect other companies to create a production process that considers consumers and workers. Corporate culture is what consumers create.
