Vertical videos have been on the rise and become increasingly preferred over horizontal videos, especially on mobile devices and popular social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.
But what is driving the shift from the traditional horizontal format to the vertical format despite the potential for horizontal videos to showcase more content?
First, it is obvious that the rise of smartphones and social media platforms has led to the preference for vertical videos. The format fits mobile screens and offers a more immersive viewing experience, allowing users to engage with content conveniently.
Also, people want access to media 24/7 regardless of where they are or what they are doing. Even if we are lying in bed or using public transportation, it's now hard to imagine our lives without scrolling through TikTok videos.
People in the marketing field, as well as creators and brands, should take this trend to heart and adapt by producing vertical videos tailored to the preferences of their audiences on these platforms.
