College of Humanities' Research Trip for Busan

Daegu University's Humanity Sciences Institute, affiliated with the College of Humanities, went on a research trip to Busan from May 19th to 20th. The students attending the College of Humanities explored the grounds of Busan's Jung-gu and Seo-gu districts.

These types of school trips have been a tradition of the College of Humanities for a long time to provide students taking courses linked to humanities—the most well-known being a series of DU-MOOC courses that covers East Asia and its cities—with practical learning opportunities.

Before the trip, students made up a theme and planned their itinerary by themselves. They are required to submit a report regarding their very own "cultural content" and a sample of it after the trip to reflect on what they learned.

This voluntary theme of designing and making your own product is deeply related to the Cultural Content Major from the Department of Culture and Arts—which was newly established just last year.

The Chairman of the Culture and Arts Department, Professor Um Ki Young, hopes that this trip will serve as an opportunity for students to gain relevant experiences and necessary skills beforehand.

"The emphasis of our trip is students defining Busan's locality and trying to create a cultural content on their own—which is what they would be doing after graduating—even though it may not be as simple as it looks," he said.
